Major Fire In Peterborough

Breaks Snooker Club on Eastfield Road in Peterborough has been virtually destroyed overnight after arsonists set light to the building.

Emergency services say they were called at about quarter past 1 with the flames reaching 40 feet in the air at one point and 35 firefighters needed to get it under control.

Adrian Slack, Station Manager of Dogsthorpe Fire Station, spoke to Heart at the scene this morning.

"We had 6 appliances and a turntable ladder on the scene attacking the fire. We started inside to begin with but because of the severity of the fire and the condition of the building, there was a risk of the roof collapsing in on the crews so we took the decision to withdraw."

Police later confirmed later that they are now investigating it as a suspected arson.

The site shut down in March last year after Rileys, who ran the club, went into administration.
