Paedophile from March Sentenced

A 21 year old man from March has been given a suspended sentence after police found nearly 300 indecent images of children on his computer.

Cambridgeshire Police were given the tip off by police in America and raided the home of 21 year old Gordon Newman in March to seize his computer.

Detective Constable Tony Cox from the county's Paedophile Investigation Unit told Heart: "Florida police had run an operation on a chap who was trying to get a young girl to make contact with him, and whilst looking at his computer discovered contact with our man here in the UK."

The information led to an arrest and DCI Cox and his team then had to go through every image on the computer, grading them on a special scale of how serious the abuse in each photo was.

"We grade pictures with 1 being the lowest, and 5 showing the most severe kind of abuse, with a child in distress. Anything from a level 3 to a level 5 is enough to get you sent to Crown Court and in this case, the gentleman had some level 5 images."

Newman was sentenced last Friday to 6 months in prison, suspended for 2 years. He will have to sign the sex offenders register for 5 years and be put under supervision for 2 years. In addition to that he must attend an internet sexual offenders programme.
