A man from Peterborough who downloaded indecent images of children has been jailed.
Officers traced 58 year old Peter Bidula after investigating a cookery website which had been hacked by online paedophiles who posted more than 2,000 indecent images in March 2010. The images were not visible for legitimate visitors to the site but could be viewed using secret links shared among online communities. The company which owned the website were alerted when there was a huge increase in web traffic and shut it down within hours and told police.
Bidula was discovered to have accessed 241 of the indecent images on the 6th of March 2010 and a week later was arrested at his home in Maple Grove, in Dosgthorpe. His computers were seized and were found to contain almost 500 indecent images of children.
He pleaded guilty to making and possessing indecent images of children and was jailed for a total of six months at Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday the 23rd of August.
Detective Constable Gareth Purdy said: "This is not a victimless crime and we will not tolerate those who view and share indecent images of children.
"This case should send a message that we will catch up with anyone who accesses such images and they will be put before the courts."
