A prison guard has been jailed for five years for smuggling drugs and mobile phones into HMP Peterborough.

26 year old Gavin Isaac [pictured - right], from Clement Way in Woodston, Peterborough, smuggled heroin, cannabis and mobiles into the prison by hiding them in his clothes.

Fellow prison officers found them on him during a search back in October.

Peterborough Crown Court heard the heroin had a prison value of £4,000 while the cannabis could have been sold for £870.

The court also heard Isaac had fallen into debt, and was doing it to try and make money to repay his loans.

Detective Constable Clare Lightfoot said: "Drugs and mobile phones are banned from prisons across the country for obvious reasons.

The prison relies on staff keeping security tight to prevent such contraband entering the jail. Isaac abused that trust for his own financial gain.

The sentence should serve as a warning to anyone who considers taking drugs or other forbidden items into prison."
