A mum from Werrington has been reunited with her handbag, seven years after it was stolen from her home.
Workmen from Enterprise Peterborough's Street Maintenance crew found the black and cream handbag while they were clearing a bed of bushes last month. Amazingly, the bag still had lots of personal items inside and £250 in cash.
One of the workmen returned the bag to Parveen Ashraf who revealed that she'd had it stolen from her home in 2006.
Mrs Ashraf said: "I never thought I would get the handbag back. I remember I had quite unusually a lot of cash in it, as it was just before my husband’s big birthday."
"What’s really special, not only did it come back intact with all the money and documents but also with a little prayer, so it’s like it had been taken care of by angels."
Richard Oldfield, Enterprise Peterborough General Manager, said: "The crew members: Ian Lilley, Arthur Fisher, Joe Brudenell and Michael Carter have been awarded with shopping vouchers for their righteousness."
"When things are mislaid, lost or even stolen, it’s great to be able to help the community when we are out and about, making Peterborough look fine."
