As multi Oscar winning actor and director Lord Richard Attenborough dies we look back at his accomplished life and career from acting roles in Brighton Rock, The Great Escape and Jurassic Park to epics he directed such as Cry Freedom and Gandhi. His was truly a life less ordinary.

Richard Attenborough with his wife Sheila Sim and their children Michael and Jane. He married actress Sheila Sim when he was 21. His son Michael was born in 1949, they also had two daughters, Jane and Charlotte.
