Children's Charity CHICKS is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2012, they offer free respite breaks to disadvantaged children from across the UK, 9000 disadvantaged children have visited their two retreats in Devon And Cornwall since they began in 1992.
The children that visit CHICKS come from a variety of backgrounds from those living in poverty, children that are being neglected or abused, either mentally, physically or sexually, children who have lost parents or even children who are full time young carers. They all have one thing in common – the need for respite from their home lives.
CHICKS offer a 2:1 child/adult care with the high number of volunteers and supervisors to child, which allows the children to gain confidence, experience activities they would never have had the opportunity to try before, make new and lasting friendships, build trust and believe in people.
In October 2011 CHICKS celebrated taking their 9000th child on camp since they began in 1992 - a huge landmark they are very proud of and could not have reached without amazing supporters. The charity receives no government funding and relies solely on the generosity of individuals, organisations, community groups, trusts and foundations.
