A former teacher from Devon has been jailed for sexual offences against a girl.

Jonathan Rowe, from Buckfastleigh, admitted multiple charges including three counts of rape of a child under 13, five counts of taking incident images and two counts of incident a child to engage in sexual activity.

The 49 year old, who used to teach at Eggbuckland Community College was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Exeter Crown Court.

He will also have to sign the sex offenders register.

The offences began in 2016 and continued until his arrest in 2018 when the victim’s mother became aware and reported the incident. Officers later seized his laptop which was found to contain explicit images of the victim.

The offences do not relate to any pupils at the college or anyone related to him.

Detective Inspector James Stock said: “The offences that Mr Rowe has plead guilty to today, will no doubt have an onward effect on his victim.

I’d like to thank the victim for coming forward and reporting this to police which allowed us to achieve the result we have seen today.

“We urge people to find the courage to come forward because as today has shown, we will listen, we will investigate, and we will support you.”
