2 Elderly People Hurt In Ayrshire Crash

Two elderly people are in a serious condition in hospital after a head-on car crash in Ayrshire.

An 80-year-old man and a woman aged 70 are being treated in Crosshouse Hospital after the collision on the A737, Saltcoats Road in Dalry at around 11.10am on Hogmanay.

Police said a Peugeot panel van was travelling southbound on the road when it appears to have lost control and crashed with a Smart Forfour heading in the opposite direction.

The 80-year-old driver of the Forfour and his passenger where taken to hospital by ambulance and remain in a serious condition.

The 24-year-old male driver of the Peugeot was released from Crosshouse after treatment.

Sergeant Ian Thornton said: "The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing, and at this time I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or anyone with information that may assist this investigation to contact the divisional road policing unit at Irvine through 101 quoting reference number 1423 of December 31."
