Elderly Woman Dies In A1 Crash

An 80-year-old woman has died after a crash on the A1 in East Lothian yesterday.


Police say a 4 year old boy was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The road was closed for several hours last night, with reports one of the vehicles was travelling on the wrong side side of the road.

A police spokesperson said: "The incident happened around 4.30pm on Saturday 10th November 2018 on the southbound carriageway, between Gladsmuir and Abbotsview, near to the Abbotsview Junction.

"An 80-year-old woman sustained significant injuries when her Toyota Yaris was involved in a collision with a Renault Megane.

"The Scottish Ambulance Service pronounced her dead at the scene.

"The 30-year-old male driver of the Renault and his 31-year-old female passenger were also seriously injured and have been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. A four-year-old boy, who was within the rear of the Renault was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital as a precaution.

"Road Policing Officers closed the road for around seven hours while they conducted inquiries at the scene. Anyone with information relating to this collision should contact police immediately quoting reference number 2993 of 10th November 2018. "
