Police are investigating the death of a five-month-old baby girl from Fife.
Hayley Davidson was admitted to hospital after officers attended a property in Buckhaven on Sunday.
They were responding to a call reporting concern for the child, who died at Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Sick Children on Wednesday afternoon.
Her family said in a statement: "Hayley is a beautiful baby girl who was loved by everyone who met her and we, as a family, wish to be left alone to grieve at this difficult and trying time.''
A post mortem examination will be carried out and police said a "thorough and rigorous'' investigation into the death is under way.
Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale, based at Levenmouth police station, said: "This is an extremely tragic and sensitive case and I'd like to reassure Hayley's family as well as the wider community that we're conducting a robust investigation and appreciate the assistance provided.''
