A man who assaulted a woman in a Livingston betting shop during an attempted robbery has been jailed.

30 year old David Moran tried to steal the cash from the female member of staff in the Ladbrokes premises in the Carmondean Centre on the 9th May 2015.

When she held onto the money, he sprayed her in the face with a canister before running off.

She was taken to St Johns Hospital for assessment.

Chief Inspector Paul Cameron said: "David Moran assaulted a woman in her place of work, leaving her shaken and distressed.

"This custodial sentence should serve as a warning that we will thoroughly investigate crimes of violence and report the circumstances to the Procurator Fiscal."
