A man, shot dead in North Lanarkshire, has been named locally as Gary More.
Armed officers, paramedics and the Police Scotland helicopter were scrambled to Gartness Drive in Airdrie at around 8.10pm last night.
The victim was found badly wounded and pronounced dead at the scene.
A school friend if Gary's came to lay flowers this morning, and told our reporter: "I grew up with Gary. We were never out of each other's houses - just like a brother more than anything else.
"Whenever you met him, he was just the same - the same daft boy that I grew up with.
"The full town...everybody's gutted. Gary was, as much as he was a really good friend to myself, a well-loved guy."
One tribute online, from Debbie Tominey, reads: "Absolutely devastated to wake up to the news that one of the Old Team's life has been taken!
"What a sad world we live in is all I can say!!
"Thinking of your gorgeous wee kids & Family at such a Tragic time .... Fly high Gary More, you were one of a kind and for sure be missed."
Police have been standing guard outside a property on the street, which is cordoned off.
Detectives need anyone with information to come forward, asking them to contact Coatbridge CID via 101, quoting incident number 3626 of Thursday 6th September 2018.
