The discovery of a man's body could be linked to an attempted murder in the same town later the same day.
Officers were called to Glen Crescent in Stevenston, North Ayrshire, at around 10.50am on Saturday where a 56-year-old man was found dead.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death, but it is currently being treated as unexplained.
A few hours later at around 3.15pm, police were called to Misk Knowes in the town where two men aged 30 and 52 were found badly injured.
They were taken to University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock.
The 30-year-old was released after being treated while the 52-year-old, who was critically injured, was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Police are treating the incident as attempted murder.
The police inquiry is continuing and it is understood officers are investigating whether the discovery of the body may be linked to the later incident.
