A teenager has been arrested over a suitcase of drugs worth £6,500 found on a bus.

The case was handed in to police after a passenger travelling between London and Belfast picked it up by mistake when they got off the bus in Dumfries.

They took it to a tourist information centre, who then contacted police.

Officers took to social media jokingly urging the owner to ''pop in, tell us what's inside'' and claim it back.

No-one handed themselves in but a 17-year-old man has now been arrested.

A post on the force's Facebook page said: "Surprisingly enough the owner didn't come and collect it at the police station, however officers from Dumfries community policing unit have carried out some enquires and have tracked him down.

"A 17-year-old male has now been arrested and charged in connection with this incident. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
