The family of a medical student who died after falling from a window have paid tribute to the "smartest, funniest and most witty boy in all of our lives''.
Ben McLean, 19, died on Friday following the incident in Edinburgh's West Preston Street.
The family of the teenager, who was from Barrhead in East Renfrewshire, have paid tribute to him in a statement issued through Police Scotland.
They said: "There are no words to explain how devastated we all are that this has happened.
"Ben was the smartest, funniest and most witty boy in all of our lives. Not only had he just passed his second-year medicine exams but he was also the life and soul of every party. Ben strived to please others and knew the perfect balance between working hard and having fun.
"It goes without saying that Ben was taken far too young but he was endlessly remarkable, and it is reassuring to know a boy like that could never be forgotten.
"We would like to thank everyone for their kind words and thoughts but the family would appreciate if they were left to grieve in private at this very sensitive time.''
Police said an investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident is under way.
A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with alleged drugs supply.
