Woman seriously injured in two-car crash

A woman has suffered serious head injuries in a two-car crash in South Lanarkshire.

The incident happened at around 3.50pm on Thursday on the A71 Stonehouse bypass, near to Lockhart Street. 

A Nissan Juke heading east being driven by a 54-year-old woman was involved in a collision with a Renault Captur driven by a woman aged 62. 

The driver of the Nissan was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow suffering from serious head injuries. 

Medical staff describe her condition as stable. 

The 62-year-old and her 64-year-old male passenger were taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital. 

She sustained back injuries and is detained in hospital. 

Medical staff also describe her condition as stable. Her passenger was treated for whiplash injuries and later released. 

Pc David Smith is investigating the crash and is appealing for anyone with information to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 2739 of June 28.
