We all have our ways of trying to get over an ex. From style makeovers, to erasing tattoos and inspirational advice, we look at how these celebrities have moved on positively after a painful split.
When it's time for a new beginning, ex's can prove tricky to remove from our lives. American actress Melanie Griffith found this out the hard way when she decided to divorce her husband Antonio Banderas earlier this year. The 56-year-old showed the world she had positively moved on with her life when she stepped out with her tattoo tribute to her ex removed from her arm.
Nothing helps a girl feel better about herself than getting a fresh new look and that's exactly what Rita Ora did when she broke up with her musician boyfriend Calvin Harris. The 23-year-old singer wasted no time in showing her ex beau what he was missing and posted a bevy of gorgeous photos to her Instagram account. Rita's pony tail high equals high spirts. You go girl!
The 24-year-old singer has had her fair share of heartache. However, rather than wallowing in self pity, Miss Swift channels her pain, turning it into a positive impact on her music and career: “Everybody has that point in their life where you hit a crossroads" said the singer "and you've had a bunch of bad days… the way I dealt with it was I just turned completely to music.” Turning heartbreak into hits, now that's what we call good sense!
She's now happily re-married to rapper Kanye West, but Kim Kardashian wasn't the only one who made a fresh start after her engagement to former fiancée Kris Humphries ended. The basketball player got over his old flame by auctioning her impressive 20-carat diamond ring. Not only that, but big hearted Humphries is reportedly donating a portion of the proceeds to charity. Now that's what we call a positive outcome.
In 2008, the actress was embarrassed when her real estate developer boyfriend Raffaello Follieri was arrested for fraud. The American beauty decided to get over the betrayal of trust by cropping her hair into a sleek bob. Her new gorgeous locks are perhaps part of the reason her now husband Adam Shulman fell for her. Either way, Hathaway has a pragmatic approach to love: "Everybody has bad relationships" she told the Telegraph, "…they are just a way to set yourself up for a good relationship."
Another lady who knows the power of a fresh look is Reese. The actress dramatically changed her appearance when she divorced her husband of seven years, Ryan Phillippe in 2007. The mother-of-two went for a decidedly more grown up look… with a fringe and bangs. Gone was demure Reese, and in was sexy, single Reese… Way to show a fella what he's missing!
Most of us know that the first guideline of getting a tattoo is never get your other half's name inked on to your body. However, there will always be those who flout the rules… and sometimes it comes back to haunt them! Luckily, if you're creative you can find ways to get around this, a la Mr Depp. The actor cleverly changed his "Winona Forever" tattoo to read "Wino Forever" when the relationship broke down. What's more, Depp even told Playboy magazine, the new tatt is "a bit more accurate."
The Latino entertainer was let down in love when she split from her husband Mar Anthony back in 2011. However, rather than crumbling, J Lo positively pushed forward with her life; throwing herself into her work and raising her children. "I am positive-determined to move forward with my life" she told Vanity Fair "…do the best job I can as a mother, entertainer, and person." The singer's career is certainly flying at the moment, having recently performed at the opening ceremony of the World Cup.
The mother-of-six has had quite an image overhaul since her younger days. One big change the actress has made is to her upper arm. Jolie has since erased her former husband's name from her arm and replaced it with the geographical co-ordinates of where her children and current husband Brad Pitt, were born.
The actress has had so many disappointments in love that she's even written a book! The 35-year-old actress has passed on her lessons in love so that others might learn from her words of wisdom. 'The Day I Shot Cupid' is filled with handy post break up advice including how many strikes a man gets before you cut him loose (It's two by the way!).
