After a good few years Ian's old flame makes a return to The Square...
It’s been 15 years since she left Eastenders, and now Tamzin Outhwaite is making a comeback!
Returning as her old character Melanie Owen who left The Square following the death of her on-screen hubby Steve Owen, her other past romance/ ex-husband Ian Beale is gonna be in for a shocker.
A soap insider said that the new Chief at Eastenders, John Yorke “has been desperate to bring back a big name and nobody was expecting Tamzin.
“She’s gone on to become a successful actress in her own right since leaving EastEnders and many fans had ruled her out of ever returning.
“But clearly her heart still lies in Walford.”
Tamzin whose first scenes are set to air in the new year, explained: “When I got the call from John asking if I would consider coming back to EastEnders, it was something I just couldn’t refuse.
“John created Mel’s most memorable storylines so it is an honour that he has asked me to return”
Mel’s main reason for leaving in 2002 was after being unknowingly implicated in Steve’s drug dealing and facing imprisonment. But thanks to Phil Mitchell she who gave her £30,000 worth of bail money, she fled the country.
Melanie added: “EastEnders is in my DNA and I always knew deep down that someday I would revisit Mel; she is a strong independent woman with lots more stories to tell.
“To be stepping back into Mel’s shoes nearly 20 years after I first started feels just perfect.”
We can’t wait!
