Dermot O'Leary sings

It's not just his dance moves which are impressive.

The X Factor viewers know that long-running host Dermot O'Leary is a master at live TV presenting. But on Saturday’s show he also wowed with them with a new talent – a soulful singing voice. Who knew?

As part of Boot Camp, hopefuls were involved in a mad scramble to find the perfect track during the Wall of Songs round. Success in front of the judges – Simon, Louis, Sharon and Nicole – at this stage would then see them proceed to the arena auditions.

At the start of the challenge, Dermot fired a klaxon and contestants raced to the Wall of Songs and chose a tune - which they later performed together in groups of four.

Songs on the wall included Justin Bieber's ‘Despacito’, ‘You Spin Me Round’ by Dead Or Alive, ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers and ‘Dancing In The Dark’ by Bruce Springsteen.

The free-for-all saw the wannabes rush to choose a song from a wall and then find three others who’d also picked that track. The task brought back memories of PE classes for us, but thankfully Dermot was on hand to help some hopefuls who were unfamiliar with their chosen songs.

He had to sing the sassy Christina Aguilera song ‘Ain’t No Other Man’ to one poor girl to jog her memory. Dermot then sang the ballad ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ – by previous winner James Arthur - to an older man who appeared to be distracted and uninterested. Tough crowd.

Mr. O’Leary was happy with his efforts, though. The cheeky presenter said: "I really enjoyed warbling along to the wall of songs. It's fast becoming an X Factor tradition. I'm not entirely sure I helped, there were a fair few blank faces but I'm backing on Simon watching and signing me up."

As much as we loved your crooning, Dermot, we think it’s best not to hold out too much hope. Maybe don’t quit the day job just yet?
