Light Plane Air Crash Being Investigated After It Came Down Close To Sandown Airport. A Man is 60's been airlifted to hospital.


Statement from Isle of Wight Ambulance Service

The Ambulance service attended an incident at Sandown Airport, Isle of Wight this morning following reports of a light aircraft crash.

A retired member of the Ambulance Service who lives nearby and the St John Ambulance, who were providing cover for an event at the airport, were first on the scene.  

An emergency Ambulance from Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and a command officer in a separate vehicle arrived shortly after the incident was reported.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance attended and airlifted a man in his 60s to the Emergency Department Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital.  No other casualties have been reported.
