A man's been arrested as police try to work out what caused an explosion at a house in Poole that injured two people.

The 66-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage with intent to endanger life.

He's currently in a serious condition in hospital.

Dorset Police say a woman, in her sixties, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Emergency crews were called to Sterte Road at around 1.45pm on Monday.

The explosion caused the house to partially collapse.

Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution.

Police says the focus of the investigation is on gas cylinders within the property.

Detective Inspector Jamie Halford said: "We are continuing to liaise with the fire service to establish the cause and have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.

"I am appealing for anyone with information that can assist our investigation to contact us."

He thanked affected residents and motorists for their co-operation with road closures and the evacuation.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said three fire engines and technical rescue teams were sent.
