Police say a 20-year-old man has been left with serious head injuries and potentially life-changing facial injuries, following an overnight attack in Bridgwater.

Detectives say he was assaulted by two men around 2.20am on Thursday 29th May, as he was walking along Albert Street near the junction with Halswell Close.

He was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, where doctors describe his condition as critical but stable.

The area where the attack took place has since been cordoned off for investigation work and officers are also planning to review CCTV footage.

Crucially, police now want to hear from anyone who recognises the descriptions of the two attackers.

Constable Kelly-Ann Holdsworth said:

"The first is white, in his mid twenties, about 6ft, of stocky build with short spikey hair. He was wearing a dark coloured t-shirt and jeans.

"The second man is described as mixed race, 6ft, of medium build, with short curly hair. He was wearing a dark jacket and black trousers or jeans.

"We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information on who was responsible, to call us.

If you can help, please call Bridgwater CID via the 24-hour Enquiry Centre on 101."
