Appeal After Day-light Break In

10 September 2010, 19:16

Police are appealing for information about a burglary at a home in Portsmouth on Friday 19th September, where the intruder was disturbed.

Just before 11am today (Friday, September 10), a man broke into a flat on Seymour Close, Buckland, but ran off when the homeowner came home.

He was targeting electrical goods at the address and had them bagged up to be taken away but left them behind as he ran out of the front door.

The suspect is described as:

  • Mixed-race man
  • 25 to 35-years-old
  • 5ft 7ins tall
  • Stocky build
  • Wearing blue jeans, dark trainers, black and grey coat with a hood worn to conceal his face

PC Allison Fraser from Portsmouth’s Burglary Investigation team said:  “Does anyone know who this man is? Did you see him running away from the house or in the area?

“Fortunately, it’s not often homeowners come face-to-face with a burglar. They don’t want to be seen because they are afraid of being identified.

“This man boldly targeted the home in broad daylight while the owner was at the shops. To get in, he broke the window in the front door and proceeded to ransack the house.

“It was a busy time of day in this area, and I’m sure many people will have seen him running. Several members of the public including the postman tried to keep watch of him as he ran off, but unfortunately he was lost from sight in the area of Queens Road.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Fraser at Fratton police station on 101 or 0845 045 45 45 from outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. You can also call the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
