Police investigating the unexplained death of a 3 month old boy on the south coast have been questioning a man and a woman.

The baby was found not breathing in a flat in Hillsley Road, Paulsgrove in Portsmouth just before 5am on Sunday, October 10. He was taken to The Queen Alexandra Hospital, where he later died.

A 21-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man from Paulsgrove have been arrested in connection with the death, according to Hampshire police. They have been bailed until December 8.

A police spokeswoman said:

“Hampshire Constabulary can confirm that officers from the specialist investigations department are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a baby from Paulsgrove, Portsmouth.

“The hospital contacted police and an investigation was launched.”

The spokeswoman refused to comment on whether the couple were known to police or social services, but Julian Wooster, director of children's services at Portsmouth City Council, confirmed it “was working with police with their ongoing enquiries”.
