Burglary At Funeral Directors

Police are appealling for information after burglars stole cash and jewellery from a Funeral Directors in Portsmouth.

Some time between 6pm on Friday (Feb 18) and 12.30pm on Saturday (Feb 19), A.G.Stapleford & Sons Funeral Directors in Powerscourt Road, Fratton, was broken into.

The burglars gained access via the rear of the property, and cash and a safe containing jewellery belonging to deceased people whose funerals are currently being organised by the Funeral Directors, was stolen.

PC Paul Bongiovanni, from Cosham Targeted Patrol Team, said:

“This was a dispicable crime and could be upsetting for family members.

“We know that entry was gained by throwing a brick through the window at the back of the property and that the offenders would have had to climb across nearby flat roofs to access this area.

"We are asking for anyone who saw anything suspicious between the times stated, to contact us. In particular, we'd like to hear from anyone who saw a beige-coloured safe, about the size of two shoe boxes, being transported."

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Bongiovanni at Cosham Police Station on 101 or 0845 045 45 45 if you live outside of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
