Couple Attacked By Gang in Halloween Outfits

Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses after a couple were attacked on a Blue Star double-decker bus by a group of people dressed up in Halloween outfits.

A group of young men and woman had been on the top deck of the No 1 bus travelling from Chandlers Ford to Southampton when there were some comments exchanged between the man who was later attacked and the group.

When the bus stopped in London Road at around 10.30pm on Saturday, October 30, the group then began to get off but then some of them pulled the man and woman to the floor and started to punch and kick them.

The man, aged 20, was left with bruising to his head and back and a broken nose.

The woman, aged 19, had bruising to her head and back and a hurting neck and some of her hair was also pulled out.

Two men, one dressed as a Leprechaun, were arrested in connection with the incident. The pair, aged 19 and 20 have since been released on bail until January 7, while enquiries continue.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident. They would like to hear from anyone who they haven’t yet spoken to who was on the bus and saw any of what happened. They would like to hear also from any other witnesses who saw
the incident from the street as some of it was visible from outside the bus.

The group involved were said to be dressed in Halloween type outfits ranging from Harry Potter to ghosts and zombies. It is believed both men and women attacked the couple. The two victims were also in fancy dress.

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call PC Gail Clarence at Southampton central Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
