Police are telling drivers passing through the outskirts of Winchester over the next few days to expect long delays because of the Boomtown Fair.

27,000 people are expected to attend the music festival at Matterley Bowl between Thursday 8 August until Sunday 11 August, with many people expected to arrive to set up camp on the Thursday.

Officers are advising local residents and commuters to expect delays and congestion in and around the Winchester area throughout the weekend, but especially during the morning and evening periods.

All cross overs along the A31 between the Percy Hobbs roundabout and Ovington roundabout will be closed from 7pm on Wednesday 7 August until 7pm on Monday 12 August.

Superintendent James Fulton said:

“We have been working closely with the organisers of this event, the highways departments at Winchester City and Hampshire County Council and also staff at Matterley Bowl to ensure disruption to local residents and other members of the public is kept to a minimum whilst maintaining everyone’s safety.

“Please allow extra time for your journeys and report any problems to us via 101.”
