Hayling Island Fatal Crash Men Named

Police have named two men who died in a collision on Hayling Island.

At around 3.20pm on September 1, a black Audi A3 travelling south on West Lane came off the road overturned, colliding with a tree.

The driver, Jason Matthews, 23, of Hayling Island, and his passenger, Perry Morgan, 21, of Cowplain, suffered serious injuries.

They were taken by ambulance to the Queen Alexandra Hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

The road was closed between Daw Lane and Brights Lane until around 8pm to allow for a full investigation of the scene.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Julian Williams from the Fratton Roads Policing unit said:

 "Very sadly, two people died in this collision. Our investigation is focused on trying to work what caused their Audi to come off the road and overturn. I'd like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle driving around Hayling prior to it."
