Hunt For Southampton Sex Attacker

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man who they think is responsible for two indecent assaults on young women in Southampton.

The first happened on Wednesday, September 21st at around 12.45am.

The 21-year-old victim was walking down Vernon Walk, an alleyway next the Orange Rooms Nightclub, when a man grabbed her from behind and forced her to the floor before indecently assaulting her.

The victim punched and kicked the man, managed to fight free and the attacker ran off.

Then a week later on Wednesday, September 28th at around 2.15am a 19-year-old woman was grabbed and indecently assaulted over her clothing by a man in Carlton Crescent.

It’s believed she had been followed for some distance by the man beforehand.

Officers are now releasing the CCTV in the hope that someone may recognise the man.

They are asking anyone who does or who thinks they may have seen the man responsible or witnessed the incidents on either evening to get in contact with them.

Officers are also trying to trace the group of young men and women who were standing by a white car in Carlton Crescent that evening and spoke to the victim when she was being followed by the offender. They are likely to be important witnesses.

The victim in the second case also describes two men who came to assist her when she screamed out during the attack in Carlton Crescent, causing the man to flee. Officers are also appealing for these males to come forward as they too are
important witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Tim Judd at Shirley CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
