A customer, who was sat outside on the decking area, told the women to go away.  The offender then walked onto the decking area and produced a handgun, started waving it at a group of men and saying words to the effect of, ‘who wants it?’

He was then wrestled by some customers from the pub and he dropped the gun. The offender then broke free and made off from the scene. The group of women also disappeared. The hand gun was recovered by police and was identified as a BB gun.

The man police want to speak to is described as:

- White
- Between 5ft 10ins and 6ft
- In his mid 20s
- Medium build
- Short dark hair
- He was wearing a dark t-shirt and dark trousers

Detective Constable Ian Cambridge, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was at the Portsbridge public house or in the Cosham High Street area around 11pm on the night of the incident, who may have seen the man with a firearm or may be able to provide any information, to come forward.  I would also like to hear from anyone who may have information about the group of women who were arguing outside the pub, as these women may hold vital information.

“Although this was an imitation firearm, it looked very realistic.  This man has caused a significant amount of distress to many customers at the pub by waving it about and causing fear.

“I would urge anyone with any information to come forward and speak to us.”
