Police investigating the stabbing of a man in a park in Southampton have released an Efit of the man they're looking for.

It happened in East Park between 2.15pm and 3pm on Sunday (8th May) by the exit to Park Walk near the gates that lead to the East Park, Southampton City Council depot.

The 53-year-old has now been released from hospital after having stitches to a wound in his back and is recovering at home.

The attacker was then seen to run along Park Walk towards the newly created grass gap where Tyrell and Green used to be. There were people sat in this area of the park at the time.

Detective Constable Jonny Hyland who is investigating the crime said:

"This appears to be an unusual set of circumstances which has led to this seemingly motiveless attack.

"We are seeking to find the man responsible as soon as possible and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who has information about the incident.

"We have had a good response from members of the public which has identified many lines of enquiry. We have a team of detectives working on this investigation known as Operation Corfe trying to find the offender. In addition we also have local uniformed officers conducting reassurance patrols in the area."

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Operation Corfe team at Shirley CID on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
