Pensioner Arrested Over Cannabis Seizure
A 71-year-old man from Lyme Regis, Dorset, has been arrested after Border Force officers seized 32 kilos of cannabis powder at Portsmouth ferry terminal.
Officers stopped a car which had just arrived off a ferry from Caen at 6.30am on Saturday 3 November and found the drugs after searching the vehicle. The cannabis found was worth approximately £64,000.
The man arrested has been bailed pending further enquiries until 13 December 2012.
Andy Lumb, from Border Force, said:
“As this detection shows, our officers are on constant alert, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to keep drugs, other smuggled goods and illegal persons out of the UK.
“We are determined to prevent this terrible trade which can have such a destructive impact on the lives of so many.”
