Police Appeal After Failed Jewellery Raid

Police are appealing for information after thieves tried to break into a jewellery store in Southampton.

Between 4.30 and 4.40pm Friday, September 28, a group of three suspects tried to smash through a toughened glass door at Sant Jewellers, Alfred Street, Southampton.

They set off the alarm though, and they fled on foot and a motorcycle. Nothing was taken, and no one was hurt.

Police believe the group arrived on two motorcycles, turning from Lyon Street into Raven Road at about 4.30pm. A few minutes later people in dark clothing and motorcycle helmets were seen running from Alfred Street into Derby Road. A motorcycle also was seen fleeing along the same route.

Temporary Detective Constable Martin Brewer said there were a number of vehicles and people walking in the area at the time.

“We need to hear from anyone who saw the suspects and the motorcycle before or after the attempted robbery.. You may not have realised what had happened, but we need to hear from you,” DC Brewer said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Brewer at Shirley CID on 101 or contact the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
