A Hampshire Police Community Support Officer has been charged with shoplifting.
Lee Wright, from Portsmouth has been suspended by his force while court proceedings take place against him.
It is understood the 24-year-old was part of a city centre patrol team.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said:
"Mr Wright has been suspended from duty pending the court proceedings and a disciplinary investigation by the constabulary's professional standards department.
"Mr Wright was arrested and charged on Saturday August 3.''
Wright is to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
