Royal Navy Sailor Cleared Of Rape

A Royal Navy sailor has been found not guilty of raping a female colleague at an accommodation block.

Engineering Technician (Marine Engineering) Kenni Dinnell, 21, who has previously served on board the Type 42 destroyer HMS York, was accused of raping a sailor of ableseaman (seaman) rank following a drunken night out on July 10 last year.

But a court martial panel at Portsmouth Naval Base, Hampshire, found ET Dinnell not guilty after two hours of deliberations.

The woman had claimed she had mistaken the defendant for his friend while ET Dinnell told the hearing she had consented to have sex with him.
