Saints Footballer Charged Over Pub Attack

Saints striker Lee Barnard's been charged with ABH after an attack outside a Southampton pub.

He's among three men who've been charged after a man was knocked unconscious and suffered head injuries outside The White House bar in Above Bar.

The 27-year-old needed hospital treatment for his injuries as did a 26-year-old man who was later arrested who suffered a hand injury during the incident.

Four men were arrested after the attack on Sunday, October 3 last year which happened at around 2.45am.

Three of them were charged. They are:

26-year-old Saints striker Lee Barnard from Ocean Village, Southampton – charged with actual bodily harm.

Liam Shelton, 26 from Shakespeare Avenue, Billericay, Essex – charged with assault by battery

David Jones, 31, from Rowan Gardens, Hedge End, charged with obstructing a police officer and threatening behaviour.

The fourth man, aged 25 also from Billericay has been released with no further action.

The three men charged have been bailed until Wednesday, February 2 when they are due to appear before Southampton Magistrates Court.
