Woman Hurt In Hit And Run In Gosport

Police appeal after woman is struck by car in Gosport.

At around 3.30pm on Monday, January 2, a 77-year-old woman was hit by a car in Cunningham Drive, Gosport.

The maroon coloured car came from Harris Road, drove left into Bridgemary Avenue then turned right into Cunningham Avenue where it struck the pensioner as she was crossing the road.

The car failed to stop and carried onto the A32, possibly towards Fareham.

The victim sustained a broken right wrist and right lower arm and a broken left ankle. She remains in hospital where she has undergone surgery on her arm injuries and doctors are assessing how best to treather broken ankle.

PC Julia Shaw from the Roads Policing Unit in Fratton said: "I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and saw this collision to contact us with any information they have.

"This incident has caused a great deal of pain and distress to this lady and her family, particularly as the driver made no attempt to stop and see if she was alright.

"We have conducted house to house inquiries but still need to hear from anyone who was in or near Cunningham Avenue at the time of the collision as they may have information vital to our inquiry."
