Woman Sexually Assaulted In Portsmouth

Police in Portsmouth are appealing for witnesses after a sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman.

It’s reported the assault took place on the walkway in Somerstown that runs alongside Winston Churchill Avenue sometime between 6pm and 6.15pm on Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Investigating officer PC Sabrina West of Portsmouth's Targeted Patrol Teams (TPT) said:  “The woman was shaken by what happened but is now safe and well staying with relatives. She saw a man wearing a red jacket walking his dog along the pathway just prior to the assault. We would ask him or any other witnesses who may have seen a man matching this description to come forward and help us with our enquiries."

The suspect was described as:

White man

Around 20 years old

5ft 9 ins to 6ft tall

Medium build

Wearing dark tracksuit bottoms and a dark hooded top, which was up and covering a dark baseball cap,
