More help for young parents in Ivybridge

Young mums and dads who may have been struggling can now access free parenting sessions at the SeaMoor Children’s Centre in Ivybridge.

They were developed in response to the lack of dedicated young parent support groups in the local area. Tatty Bumpkin teacher, Marie-José Naud runs the classes at the SeaMoor Children centre. She uses a raggy doll called Baby Bumpkin to get parents to move, react and bond with their babies.

She said: "Baby Bumpkin is designed to be a non-threatening way for carers to learn parenting skills and enjoy their little one’s company. Baby Bumpkin himself is a little funny looking and always makes everyone feel comfortable."

Sessions include a Baby Bumpkin yoga class, followed by a talk by professionals, like health visitors or job centre plus advisors and a chance to relax and chat about the day-to-day role of being a young mum with people who are in the same position.
