More than 150 Suffolk based soldiers returned to RAF Honington last night after spending six months in Afghanistan.

27 Squadron; who're also known as The Gunners, had spent their tour of duty helping to protect an airbase in Kandahar.

A welcome home party was set up in a hangar at Honington where hundreds of loved ones gathered in anticipation of seeing the airmen for the first time in weeks. Young children had spent time making posters to welcome their Dads home. Many had flags.

Tears flowed and cheers and applause rang out at RAF Honington when a giant gate opened to reveal the uniformed airmen last night just before 6 o'clock in the evening. Tune into Heart's news bulletins this morning to hear from just some of the men who returned to their families.
