A second man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 66 year old man was found dead in a flat in Bury St Edmunds.

Police investigating the death of 66-year-old Peter Avis have also been granted further time to question a 34-year-old man already in custody.

The second man – a 30-year-old – was arrested in north London yesterday afternoon, Sunday 15 January. He will now be brought back to Suffolk to be interviewed by officers.

Meanwhile police have successfully applied for a warrant of further detention as they continue to question a 34-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder.

Magistrates have granted detectives a further 36 hours to interview the 34-year-old man – giving officers until Tuesday morning, 17 January, to talk to him about the incident.

Mr Avis was formally identified earlier today by relatives. Police are continuing enquiries into his death and are renewing appeals for anyone with information that may help the investigation to call the Major Investigation Team at Suffolk Constabulary on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously if required, on 0800 555 111.
