Bury St Eds: Man Charged After Bomb Hoax

A man has been charged with communicating false information following a bomb hoax at a Bury St Edmunds department store yesterday afternoon.

Police received a call at 1.56pm from Debenhams in the Arc Shopping Centre that a man was displaying threatening behaviour to staff.

Officers attended and a man was detained on suspicion of causing a public nuisance.

Information was then received that a bag was in the store containing an explosive device and people were evacuated from the shop -  with nearby stores also being temporarily closed.

The bag was searched and nothing suspicious was found within.

Steven Cook, aged 35 and from Devon Close in Bury St Edmunds has been charged with bomb hoax - communicating false information and is due before Bury St Edmunds Magistrates on Friday 29th June.
