Don't Text Back

If you receive a text message offering you free money on a claim - don't reply.

That's from Trading Standards as lots of people have been getting them saying you could get thousands of pounds for an accident you've been in - all you have to do is text back.

They even ask you to respond with STOP if you no longer want them.

Here is an example of the type of messages people have been getting:

Free Msg; Our records indicate you may be entitled to £3750 for the accident you had. To apply free reply CLAIM to this message. To opt out text STOP

However, Tony Dawley from Suffolk Trading Standards told Heart you shouldn't text anything back as you don't want anyone to have your personal details: "I think the best method is to contact your mobile phone network provider. You've got it out of the blue, you don't know who's sending that. Do I want that person to have any of my information and the answer should be 'no' so don't respond to it."
