The 17 year old says it happened on Chester Road at around 1.30 on Sunday morning.
Officers were contacted yesterday morning, Monday 4 February, about the incident and have begun enquiries into what happened.
The 17-year-old reported that she had been walking along the road when a male knocked her to the ground, put his hand up her dress and sexually assaulted her.
The girl screamed and the male – possibly in his teens and wearing a hooded top with a scarf partially over his face - ran away.
Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area around this time or anyone with information about the male involved to call Acting Detective Sergeant Annabel Taylor at Suffolk Police on 101.
