An Ipswich man who stole a car and drove it drunk, while disqualified, and without insurance has been jailed for a year.

25-year-old Darrell Lambert, of Hawke Road, Ipswich, stole the car along with a trailer from a yacht harbour in Levington on 19/12/11. He was later arrested by police on 20/12/11 and charged with seven separate offences including thefts of the motor vehicle and trailer, drink driving, driving whilst disqualified and with no insurance, theft from a motor vehicle and a separate shoplifting offence.

Appearing at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday, Lambert pleaded guilty to all offences including a previous court order breach. He was sentenced to a total of 62 weeks in prison.

The shoplifting offence related to stealing sandwiches from a petrol station on 19/12/11 from Woodbridge Road East in Ipswich.

DI Bernie Morgan of Ipswich CID said: "Lambert went on a crime spree, stealing from numerous innocent victims before going on to put other people's lives at risk by driving whilst disqualified and under the influence of alcohol. The gravity of his offences is reflected in the passing of an immediate custodial sentence.

"Crime and anti-social behaviour such as this will not be tolerated and will be rigorously investigated."
