RAF Airman Dies in Collision

An Airman from RAF Lakenheath has died after a collision with a car belonging to another Airman yesterday evening at Beck Row in West Suffolk.

The incident occurred on the A1101 outside the main gate of RAF Mildenhall. Police and ambulances were called to the scene at 11pm but the Airman - a pedestrian - died at the site. He has not yet been named, but is attached to the 48th Fighter Wing, RAF Lakenheath. The vehicle was driven by an Airman from the 352nd Special Operations Group, RAF Mildenhall.

“The Liberty Wing suffered a tragic loss last night,” said Col. Bill Lewis, 48th Fighter Wing vice commander. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the Liberty Airman killed in yesterday’s accident.”

The road was closed overnight but has now been re-opened.
