More Details Released Over Attack

Suffolk Police have released more details following an attack on a woman at the weekend.

Police were called shortly after 11.50pm on Sunday, 31st July 2011 to a report that a 19-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted.

The woman left a friend’s house at about 11pm to look for another friend.  She was approached by a man at about 11.20pm in Belstead Road who initially asked for her phone but then tackled her to the ground and physically and sexually assaulted her.  She has sustained minor injuries and bruising.

The man is described as white, aged in his 20s, slightly taller than 5’9/10”, stocky/broad build, and was wearing dark coloured tracksuit bottoms, a dark coloured tracksuit top with the hood up, and white trainers.

Detectives are keen to trace a couple who may have spoken to the victim at around 11:20pm in or around the area of Stoke Park Drive approach and Belstead Road. Furthermore, a man was seen running in the Belstead Road area around the time of the attack and detectives are also asking him to get in contact.

Detective Inspector Stuart Sowerby of Ipswich CID said, “This was a nasty attack that has left the victim very shaken. These people could hold important information in relation to this investigation and we are urging them to contact us without delay.”
