Newmarket: Sex Assault Appeal Renewal

Police in Newmarket are renewing their appeal for information following an allegation of sexual assault.

A 21-year-old woman reported that the incident happened in a car park in Queensbury Road between 2:30am and 4:15am on Sunday 8 January.

The woman had been out with friends in the town when she went to collect belongings from her car located in the car park. She stated that a man had walked with her and when the pair reached the vehicle she was attacked.

The man is described as white and appears to be of a Mediterranean origin. He is also described as tall, of medium build, aged in his early 20's, with thick black short wavy hair and clean-shaven. He was wearing dark jeans and a dark hooded type jacket with a light coloured shirt underneath.

Officers have been trawling CCTV footage and were in the town centre on the evening of Saturday 15 January carrying out anniversary checks.

DC Jacquelin Mumford, who is leading the investigation, said: “The victim had been in De Neros nightclub prior to the incident so it is possible that the offender met her inside and spent time with her there before they walked to the car park. Their journey would have taken them down the High Street, into The Avenue before turning into Queensbury Road. We are appealing for anyone who may have seen a man similar to the one described in De Neros or walking with a woman along the mentioned route to get in contact immediately.”

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact DC Jacquelin Mumford at Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
