People Evacuated From Homes After Fire

Police and the Fire Service are currently at the scene of a house fire, which happened at a block of flats in the early hours of this morning.

Around 40 firefighters were called to London Road in Ipswich just after 3am this morning.

The Fire Service then called police at approximately 3.35am this morning, Saturday 3rd September, asking for assistance with evacuation of residents from the block of flats.

It started at a terrace house before spreading to the roofs of two other houses and took crews around three hours to get it under control.

London Road is currently shut at Handford Road while the emergency services deal with the incident.

Two men were seen acting suspiciously around the rear of the property at around midnight. They are described as two white men, one wearing a dark baseball cap, the other wearing a lighter baseball cap.
